Father's Day: The Dam at Rockford

We decided to spend Sunday afternoon at the dam in Rockford. Frances was fascinated by the turtles on the rocks that were just out of reach of everyone not in the water.
I think this is a great picture. I was in an experimental mood and just dangled the camera in front of her and this was the result. Not bad, eh?
Frances ate her first ice cream cone, and she liked it a lot, but you must understand she does not like strawberry ice cream. She likes PINK ice cream.

Louisville, KY: Scoring AP Exams

This was my first year scoring the AP Exams in Louisville, and it was quite an experience. In previous years there were 900 English teachers under one roof scoring exams in Daytona Beach, but this year they put the English Language and the English Literature people together, so there were over 2,000 English teachers under one roof, scoring exams. In the picture above, I am in the Hard Rock Cafe in Louisville with some table-mates from last year's reading.
I was rather busy with my online courses and I didn't get away from the convention center and the Galt House Hotel very much, but at the Kentucky Welcome Center, I was able to get my picture taken with Colonel Sanders.

I have gotten to know some interesting people over my years of scoring exams. Here is a picture of one such individual. This is Alice, an English teacher from California. We were sat next to each other at the same table two years in a row, and seem to keep running into each other.

South Haven: Memorial Day Weekend

Since we went to mass at St. Lukes in Kalamazoo on Sunday, we decided we may as well go and visit South Haven and walk the pier. It must have been a good idea, because it seemed like most of southwest Michigan had the same idea. But it was still fun.
The lighthouse at South Haven is covered in graffiti, and I don't think the warnings of stiff fines and the rewards for those who report the vandals are terribly effective in preventing the graffiti.
It was very hot and sunny, we all got a bit sunburned.
Frances enjoyed walking down the pier with Mama.

Gun Lake: Memorial Day Weekend

We had a nice relaxing Memorial Day weekend. At the cottage, we sometimes put soap in the wading pool and let Frany get her bath and play at the same time. She is going through this phase where she makes this cheesy smile whenever I point a camera at her.
