Trying to redeem an awful Sunday....

Last Sunday, our Sunday morning got off to an awful start at our church, and Suzanne and I wound up storming out halfway through the service, with Frances and about twenty other people, after we watched our seemingly vindictive little priest snub a friend who was standing there waiting to speak during announcements. We decided to go to Frederick Meijer Gardens to see if something could be redeemed from the day. (The devastating conflict at our church has made the Virtue Online, aka Angican Tabloid News. When I first saw this article, it was next to a story about a priest who gave communion to a dog. Its all very sad. Here is a link to the story on Virtue Online. In some ways, this is a tempest in a teapot. The diocese is pretty small potatoes in the grand scheme of things. But our parish church is within walking distance of our house, and it is where Frances was baptized, and its the parish family that supported us through an excruciatingly long adoption journey, and its OUR teapot. There seems to be no end in sight, as the congregation just becomes more polarized and everyone digs in their heels.)
Anyway, we did manage to have a nice time at Meijer Gardens (how can you not have a nice time at Meijer Gardens?). Here are some of the pictures I took...
Here's Frances playing in the Children's Gardens. They have scale models of the five great lakes, and little boats the kids can play around with.
"Look Mama, this door is just my size!" said Frances.
Clowning around with Mama.
Enjoying a cold drink in the cafe' afterwards.

(FYI, I have since lost the beard. I get lazy during the summer and decided not to shave since I wasn't teaching in a classroom....)

Loved seeing the pictures of Frances in the garden and with her Mommy!
With FB being so easy, it is hard to keep up the blog. Pictures always do the trick!
Happy back to school!
